There’s fast, and then there’s the Bombardier Global 8000. Already billed as the world’s fastest business jet at Mach 0.94, the 19-passenger ultra-long-range aircraft now boasts a top speed of Mach 0.95.
Announced at the 2025 National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in mid-October, the Mach 0.95 mark is the highest in civil aviation, making the Global 8000 the fastest business jet in history, according to Bombardier.
Redefining The Market
Introduced in 2022, the Global 8000 is expected to enter service this year, replacing the Global 7500 as Bombardier’s flagship. The first production aircraft completed its inaugural flight in May. The aerospace manufacturer says current Global 7500 owners can upgrade their aircraft to Global 8000 performance capabilities.
Bombardier's senior vice president of engineering and product design, Stephen McCullough, says the new speed capability will help the Global 8000 redefine the ultra-long-range segment.
"This achievement underscores the significant contributions of our innovative design, flight test, and production teams, and showcases their immense expertise, obsession with excellence, and unrelenting commitment to push the boundaries—the heartbeat that drives everything we do at Bombardier," he says.
Getting Up To Speed
Bombardier claims the Global 8000 is the first business jet to reach supersonic speeds in testing, the fastest civil aircraft since the Concorde, and the first to offer a transcontinental ultra-high-speed cruise at Mach 0.92. The jet’s impressive speeds are possible thanks to its Smooth Flĕx Wing design and twin GE Passport engines, each delivering 18,920 pounds (84.16 kilonewtons) of thrust.
No One-Trick Pony
Beyond extreme speed, the Global 8000 offers an industry-leading flight range of 8,000 nautical miles (14,816 kilometers), allowing nonstop routes such as Dubai to Houston, Singapore to Los Angeles, and London to Perth.
According to Bombardier, pilots can look forward to runway performance on par with a light jet and access to up to 30% more airports than the Global 8000's closest rival. Pilots and crew will enjoy the industry's most spacious cockpit and crew quarters. Additional features that should tantalize owners, pilots, and passengers include:
- A cabin altitude of less than 2,900 feet (884 meters) when flying at 41,000 ft (12,497 m)
- Four true living spaces
- The comfort-enhancing Bombardier Pũr Air system
- The award-winning Nuage seat with a zero-gravity seating position
- The jet lag-combating Soleil lighting system
- An option for an industry-leading 55-inch 4K television
- The l’Opéra audio system with seat-centric sound technology
