Bombardier To Restart Aviation & Transportation Manufacturing Operations At Canadian Facilities
Commercial and business jet manufacturer Bombardier announced this week it will begin bringing back nearly 11,000 Canada-based employees in the coming weeks who were furloughed following government mandates concerning the COVID-19 outbreak. The Montreal-based aerospace company says starting May 11th, suspended manufacturing and service activities will gradually resume.

Bombardier is recalling employees to its Aviation and Transportation segments and its corporate office, but notes schedules for returning workers will vary by site. When employees do return, they’ll be subject to new health and safety procedures. Employees whose physical presence isn’t required at production or service sites will continue working from home.
Bombardier plans to use the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy program to assist eligible employees working in Canada. The company says unions representing Canadian Bombardier employees fully support the move. “Our industries are among the most affected by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic,” stated Éric Martel, Bombardier president and CEO. “I want to thank the federal government for putting this bold initiative in place to support Canadian workers and companies.”

Martel believes that by Bombardier continuing to work closely with employee representatives and public health authorities in countries where it operates, Bombardier “will establish itself as an example of a dynamic and responsible industrial leader in the global recovery.”
