Dassault Aviation’s DFS Service Converts Falcon 900B Business Jet To Cargo Configuration In Just Eight Days
Members of the Dassault Falcon Service (DFS), a subsidiary of French aerospace manufacturer Dassault Aviation, recently converted a company-owned Falcon 900B business jet from a passenger jet to a cargo plane in only eight days. DFS provides maintenance and repair services, plus overhaul, refurbishment, and modifications, of Falcon aircraft and on-demand charter activities. The French Civil Aviation granted Dassault a fast-track exemption for the conversion, and Dassault is now using the jet to transport fabric to an Eastern European plant to produce face masks for COVID-19-related protective use.
Faster Transport
After delivering materials, Dassault is transporting completed masks back to France in the Falcon 900B for use there, in North Africa, and in other areas impacted by the pandemic. As Dassault notes, doing so is significantly faster and offers greater flexibility than using ground transport or commercial airfreight. The converted 900B has a 6,325-pound (2,870-kilogram) cargo capacity.
DFS customer service, engineering, and operating team members along with Dassault Aviation test and certification resources participated in the conversion, which involved removing passenger seats and furnishings and installing equipment for stowing and securing freight.
