Bombardier and the International Environmental Production Declaration (EPD) System—a Sweden-based environmental declaration program—recently announced a third-party-audited EPD publication for Bombardier’s 19-passenger Global 7500 business jet. Bombardier claims the publication, which provides voluntary and transparent information about the jet’s life cycle environmental footprint, is a first for business aviation.

An Important Milestone

Bombardier says the Global 7500 EPD is third-party verified to the highest International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards, and contains information about the jet’s CO2 emissions, noise, water consumption, and other environmental impact indicators. Bombardier says it plans to communicate the same type of environmental performance information for all new aircraft programs through EPDs. The Global 7500 EPD, it says, marks an “important milestone in the advancement of Bombardier Aviation’s overarching environmental sustainability strategy.”

That strategy includes increasing adoption of sustainable alternative fuels, reducing CO2 footprint, improving aircraft recyclability, and sustainably sourcing, which collectively are part of Bombardier’s Eco-Design approach and will help support industry-wide carbon reduction goals. Bombardier’s Eco-Design team implemented various life cycle processes throughout the Global 7500’s development to help reduce its environmental impact. Bombardier says the Global 7500 is the first business jet “conceived with this approach.”

Find Bombardier Aircraft

The Global 7500 uses all-new GE Passport engines that Bombardier says incorporates advanced technologies and materials to improve durability, generate lower noise output, and reduce fuel consumption. The jet’s new high-speed transonic wing, meanwhile, helps reduce drag, fuel consumption, and emissions while “offering a smooth ride, as well as excellent short-field and high-speed performance,” Bombardier says.
