Textron Aviation has a new apprentice opportunity available to entry-level technicians interested in working in the aviation sector. The manufacturer recently expanded the Tooling Apprenticeship program it launched last year by adding a new Numeric Controls (NC) Technician Apprenticeship program offered in collaboration with WSU Tech and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). WSU Tech is located in Wichita, Kansas, where Textron Aviation is headquartered.

“This new apprenticeship provides quality education and training to participants, while allowing them to earn a paycheck,” says Maggie Topping, Textron Aviation senior vice president of human relations and communications. “This program further cements our dedication to educational and community partnerships that benefit the company and the region.”

Tuition & Fees Paid

Textron Aviation says the NC “earn and learn” opportunity will provide apprentices with factory and classroom training while paying them a salary and benefits. Apprentices will split time between attending training at WSU Tech and working with assigned mentors at Textron Aviation production facilities. Textron says it will pick up the tab on related WSU Tech tuition and fees.

The program aims to address long-term production and operations requirements for Textron Aviation’s aircraft programs while bringing attention to Wichita as a global aerospace center. NC apprentices will perform routine maintenance and repairs on technologically advanced production machines and electronic systems using a variety of test equipment and troubleshooting tools.
