Bombardier recently put the finishing touches on the 100th wing manufactured for its 19-passenger Global 7500 business jet. The completion occurred at its facility in Red Oak, Texas, where the aerospace company manufactures the wing. Bombardier credits the high-speed transonic wing for helping cut down on drag, reducing fuel burn, and lowering emissions while simultaneously enabling a smooth ride and excellent short-field and high-speed performance. Bombardier recently delivered the 50th Global 7500.

The Texas Connection

The Global 7500 was introduced in 2018. Since then, it has recorded a 99.7% dispatch reliability rate and been the industry’s highest-performing aircraft, Bombardier says. Records set by the jet include the longest city-pair flight by a purpose-built business aircraft, recorded during a nonstop flight connecting Sydney and Detroit. Bombardier says the aircraft is the industry’s only business jet with four living spaces, a dedicated crew suite, and a kitchen.

The more than 600 employees working at the Red Oak facility play a vital role in the Global 7500 wing program, Bombardier notes. To keep pace with increased Global 7500 customer demand, Bombardier launched the Bombardier Aviation Apprenticeship Program (BAAP) in conjunction with Texas State Technical College (TSTC) located in Waco in 2019. The initiative fosters local talent, drives regional aerospace growth, and helps support the manufacture of Global 7500 wings. Earlier this year, Texas Workforce Solutions awarded Bombardier its Large Employer of the Year award in conjunction with the BAAP.

The Global 7500 At Work

In addition to the advanced wing, the Global 7500 features an all-new GE Passport engine, Nuage seating, Bombardier Vision flight deck featuring fly-by-wire technology, and an all-new nice Touch cabin management system. The jet has a 7,700-nautical mile (14,260-kilometer) range and a top speed of Mach 0.925. Bombardier claims the Global 7500’s steep-approach ability helps make it the largest business aircraft able to access London City Airport.
